Just Us Girls Challenge #18 Wildcard challenge....{LOVE} and blog candy!

It's saturday and time for a wild card challenge with Just Us Girls.  That means anything goes!  I had the honor of being hostess this week and I challenged the girls to make a banner with the bonus theme of love or valentines day.  I am a total sucker for the all the girlie hearts, paper doiles, glittery love themed items filling the aisles at the stores this time of year.  So it's a "holiday" derived from brilliant retail marketing?  That doesn't stop me from loving the idea of sharing a little love with our special people.  Oh and let's not even get started on my fave valentines candy.....conversation hearts!  Eeek!  My fave!  Anyway, back to the challenge....
Look what that sweet Kristin did with my banner!  I feel like a VIP :)
I decided to make a banner for the mirrored dresser that lives in our dining area.  I think it can be important to know where you want your banner to live before you start designing it.  The space you want it to fit in will almost always dictate how long your banner can be.
Fun, huh?
Here's a closeup of the "v" panel.  I used a heart shaped paper doily I got at target a couple years ago, layered on a diecut heart from K&Co's Smitten line and also THE BEST chipboard font ever (IMHO) from Basic Grey called Bon Bon.  The letters come plain so I painted theme with a great Apple Barrel acrylic paint color called cloudless and then sugared them up with clear glitter from martha Stewert while the paint was still wet.  The background DP is something I created (sort of!).  It started as a scan of the back of a playing card.  The design was red on white.  While I had the card scan up in Microsft word, I was playing around by changing the color and transparency and I ended up with this amazing pink DP design!  Eeek!  Love it and TOTALLY don't know how I did it!  Maybe one day I'll figure it out again but for now, I am just going to enjoy this digital gift.  ;)

BLOG CANDY ALERT!
I had lots of goodies pulled out to make this banner and I would love to share some with you!  I'll draw a lucky winner of some goodies from my comments on this post and announce the winner in my next Just Us Girls post.  Just leave me a comment on this post and share your fave valentines candy with me (if you want).  I wanna know how many of you are crazy for conversation hearts like me! ;)  Up for grabs....1 yard of lace trim, Smitten die cut hearts (lots!), a white and a red paper doily, love tickets from Making Memories and vintage book pages sprayed with vintage pink glimmer mist.  Good luck and lots o love to you!!!

Don't foget to join the Just Us Girls DT and make a banner for the challenge.  You can link us up on the Mr Linky at the Just Us Girls Challange blog.  Check out the DT links for all of the juicy details on their blogs.  And one last shout out to our January guest designer, Gabby Arriaza!  Thanks girlie! You are amazing!

Have a wonderful day and thanks for coming by!
