If I knew you were coming, I'd have baked a cake...

Do you know this song?  I don't actually know it except for that line but my girls and I sing it with gusto over and over again whenever we bake a cake.  I will be baking up a storm tomorrow in preparation for the baby shower I have been talking non stop about but until then, I thought I'd share a batch of freshly cooked RIBBON cakes!  Love these simple cards that help me to use up my teeny pieces of pretty ribbon.

Taking them out is like a walk down memory lane...take the orange with white flowers ribbon above at the top of the cake...that was a snippet left over from a card that I have in this October's CARDS magazine!  Seriously, I have been holding that secret in since the golden email that said I was "IN" because I didn't want to jinx myself but I have official confirmation, my card made it!  It's my first publication so I'm pretty stoked and completely humbled!

Oh chocolate decadence!  Doesn't this cake look like a girl's best friend??  OK, on this cake my standout ribbon is the brown with leaves...a Martha Stewert jobbie that I first used on this owl card.  Still one of my faves to date on the blog-o.  Also, the caramel brown satin ribbon was from my mom, to my cousin's fiancee, who gave the shower ribbon bouquets to my girls who then shared with their mom, me.  Whew!  That's practically a family scrapbook! ;)

And the last cake...a pretty little feminine pink and aqua confection.  Stand out ribbon???  Well, it's none other than the very top layer...the ribbon I used on my daughter's baby announcements when she was just a newborn.  Now the girls are almost 9 and almost 6, my how time flies....and to think I still have those scraps hanging around in my craft room!  I need to make more ribbon cakes don't I?

Thanks so much for coming by today!  I'll be back at saturday midnight my time to help kick off another My Time to Create challenge....this time it's Lauren's fabulous templates!  Start thinking of giving someone a gift in creative packaging and play along with us OK?  Have a great one!

Dane is great: she makes us RIBBON cake! Dane is great! We love to eat her yummy cake!... {that's from a Bill Cosby routine, I believe... with some tinkering for the paper craft set!} ANYWHOO, Dana! What sweet confections you have cooked up and shared with US! I love the little fragments of memory stored in each layer: so sweet! And RICH {sans calories!}!

LOL......last night, as I was breaking "stamp camp" down, I grabbed about a dozen little scraps of ribbon off my table and put them in their color coded homes for just this purpose!! I thought, "Oh I better save these, I can make one of Dana's ribbon cakes!" Actually, I don't believe that I have a pedestal to stand them on......might be an excuse to hunt one down! Right?! :>

YIPPIE!! WOOOOHOOOOOO!!! CONGRATULATIONS on your first pub and in CARDS at that!!! :>:>

Dana, congratulations. I won't see my first card until January, but I know how good that feels. And I'm so excited for you!

Love these cards. It's really a great idea. So do you wrap the ribbon around something? Or are they just cut cleanly!

Hope you are doing well!

Wow! Really, really special idea - use up those tiny pieces of ribbon I can't quite make myself throw away and create perfect little cards. Please make sure this idea is submitted for publication before someone else does!
